THE SHROUDS directed by DAVID CRONENBERG - Release April 30 2025

"The Shrouds" is a psychological thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker David Cronenberg. The film follows the story of Karsh, a grief-stricken widower who develops revolutionary technology allowing people to watch their deceased loved ones decompose in real time. Through a special shroud embedded with sensors, Karsh creates a business venture that blurs the boundaries between life and death, public and private grief, while also processing his own loss.

As Karsh’s enterprise grows, he discovers that someone is sabotaging his burial sites, forcing him to confront not only his own grief but also challenging questions about mortality, technology, and the ethics of his creation. The film stars Vincent Cassel in the lead role, with Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce in supporting roles.

"The Shrouds" was selected for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2024, where it competed for the Palme d’Or. The film also appeared at several other major international film festivals that year, further cementing Cronenberg’s reputation as a master of body horror and psychological cinema.

The film continues Cronenberg’s exploration of themes that have defined his career: the relationship between technology and the human body, the psychological impact of loss, and the commodification of deeply personal experiences.
