"French Water" is a short film directed by Jim Jarmusch for Saint Laurent’s Summer 2021 collection. The film follows a mysterious waiter (played by Luka Sabbat) who observes several well-dressed women (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Julianne Moore, Chloë Sevigny, Indya Moore, and Charlotte Rampling) lingering after a party at a luxury venue.
As the evening progresses, the women repeatedly encounter each other in different outfit combinations from the Saint Laurent collection. The waiter offers them French water as they search for someone named Andra who seems to have disappeared. Time appears to loop and shift throughout the night, creating a dreamlike atmosphere enhanced by Jean-Michel Blais’ piano score.
The film serves as both an artistic showcase for Saint Laurent’s designs and a surreal meditation on time, memory, and social connections, characteristic of Jarmusch’s distinct filmmaking style.
